Monochrome Cool

3,342 sq ft

  • 5 Beds
  • 3.5 Baths

This modern lakeside bungalow cottage is situated in beautiful Muskoka, Ontario cottage country. The bungalow cottage nestles nicely into the slope of the land while also maximizing views over the lake. The white and black theme is kept consistent on both the exterior and interior of the lakeside cottage, lending it a striking contemporary feel with a slight nod to the popular modern farmhouse look.

A meandering walkway leads you from the driveway towards the entry of this bungalow cottage. The homeowners chose classic cottage board and batten siding, but the white colour with matching white trim and contrasting black windows, trusses, and brackets give the building a contemporary feel. The grey asphalt roof marries it all together. The back ‘curb appeal’ of a lakeside cottage is as, if not more, important than the front with guests often coming up from the lake to the cottage. The back of this bungalow cottage does not disappoint. It showcases the walkout basement as well as the main floor filled with huge windows to capture the views of the lake from within most rooms of the cottage.

The Brighton urban bungalow immediately welcomes you with a generous timber frame front porch that gives a slight nod to a modern farmhouse look that can be played up or down depending on your personal style.

When you enter the front door, your eyes are immediately drawn to the soaring timber frame cathedral ceiling of the open concept kitchen and living area. You get beautiful slight lines right through to the backyard as well as a glimpse of a gorgeous fireplace, sure to become a natural gathering place and focal point of the main floor. The dining room is conveniently set off the kitchen and overlooks the backyard. It has a lower ceiling than the cathedral heights of the main living area, creating a cozier, more intimate feel to the space.

Cozy Luxury

4,051 sq ft

  • 4 Beds
  • 3.5 Baths

This timber frame bungalow was built for a homeowner whose main focus was to achieve a beautifully finished and well designed timber frame lakefront bungalow cottage, an investment property, within a very tight timeline - less than six months. Normerica worked together with the client to create a cozy bungalow design that met all of their needs and was completed quickly onsite by using prefabricated building systems to expedite the construction timeline.

Timber frame elements throughout the whole lakefront bungalow cottage including the bathrooms provide a mix of warm contemporary and country elements. The great room features large windows that allow daylight to fill the main level and leads into a modern kitchen and dining area, perfect for entertaining. The lower level of this bungalow house design has a walk out basement with a 10-foot high ceiling that gives a very open feel to the large family room.

The house fits perfectly with the landscape and the dark siding with white stained timber elements give a fresh modern look to this stunning lakefront bungalow.
